Instructors
Our teachers are all well trained and experienced in the art, science, and philosphy of yoga. Our instructors are trained in the Iyengar system of Hatha Yoga. Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar, the world’s foremost expert on Yoga asana. Mr. Iyengar pioneered the use of props to allow all levels of students to practice safely and effectively. Iyengar is credited with popularizing yoga in the west and defining a standard of excellence in teaching that is unsurpassed.
Iyengar yoga instructors meet the needs of all students, tailoring their instruction and the use of props to suit all body types and physical boundaries. Do not be put off from trying yoga because you feel too old, too stiff, too overweight or too tired. Yoga welcomes people of all ages and all levels of physical condition. Iyengar yoga may be a particular style of yoga, but we open our studio to students of any tradition and we welcome you in our classes!

What does it mean to be a certified Iyengar teacher?
The Iyengar system has an extensive and thorough training program based on years of practice and study. Teachers certified by IYNAUS (Iyengar Yoga National Association of the US) are educated and experienced in the methods of yoga as set forth by Sri B.K.S. Iyengar. They maintain a committment to daily practice, study regularly with senior Iyengar teachers, and have passed a rigorous assessment exam. Teachers granted certification must meet the following standards: a demonstrated practice of poses, demonstrated teaching skills, and a written exam on philosophy, anatomy, and practical knowledge of teaching. Our Iyengar classes are taught either by certified teachers or teachers active in the certification process.
